Our cruise season is wrapping up, and I find myself doing something I don’t do often enough — looking back.
Eight years ago, Andrew and I started Bonaire Landsailing Adventures with a handful of blokarts, a stretch of flat ground on the east coast, and the Caribbean trade winds.
Since then, more than 40,000 people have experienced landsailing for the first time with us. Many have come back to do it again.
🏝️ Why This Was Our Best Season Ever
1. The Power of Bonaire’s Trade Winds
First, the wind. Bonaire’s winds are remarkably consistent, but this year they showed up like they had something to prove. We had very few down days.
When your entire business runs on a natural resource you can’t control, a year like this one reminds us why we chose this island.
2. A Team That Makes It Happen
When you run a small, couple-owned business on a small island, everything depends on the people beside you.
This year, Andrew and I travelled to New Zealand for a family wedding and reunion. We were away for weeks.
And the operation didn’t just survive — it thrived. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because we have people who care about the business as much as we do.
We have those people, and I don’t take that for granted for a second.
3. Working Directly With Cruise Lines
A decision we made eighteen months ago. We backed ourselves and went directly to the cruise lines with a proposal to work together — without a middleman. Industry people told us it wouldn’t work. It did. Our first full season working directly with some of the biggest cruise lines in the world has been everything we hoped for and more.
